IWA and the Energy and Resources Institute to strengthen professional capacity in the sector to achieve SDG 6
The International Water Association (IWA) and the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 1 April 2019 to strengthen the professional capacity of the water and sanitation sector in India, and foster the exchange of knowledge among water professionals from across the world to achieve global sustainable development.
The MoU is the result of various discussions between both organisations aimed at identifying common objectives and unique strengths to effect positive change towards the Sustainable Development Goals. At the leasing edge of bridging research into practice, IWA and TERI are in a unique position to provide training, education, knowledge development and research to a range of audiences in low and middle income countries.
Through this MoU, both TERI and IWA will develop a range of activities that leverage each other’s networks to support the achievement of the SDG targets goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Through the existing setup of IWA Specialist Groups, TERI experts will focus on generating knowledge on areas of common interest, such as SDGs, Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies, Advanced Oxidation Processes, Anaerobic Digestion, Assessment and Control of Hazardous Substances in Water, Integrated Policy Analysis, Water Wise Cities, Climate Resilience, Nanotechnology and Water, Water Auditing, Water Reuse and Efficient Urban Water Management.
Strong support from TERI for IWA in India is foreseen in the identification of context specific themes for IWA to tailor Specialist Groups, showcasing case studies from India in the domain of water and sanitation policies, supporting IWA events in India which focus on the thrust areas relevant to India, including Water Reuse and Recycle, in addition to support for the initiation of a Young Water Professionals forum in India.
